Organisers of the UK’s Halfords Tour Series had the idea to clear up the mystery of road cycling to the general spectator who battle to understand the Tactics of cyclists in the elite road cycling ranks. Many spectators and even competitors are happy to accept that road cycling is a team sport but find it difficult to accept that the majority of the riders in the elite pro peloton are not even racing for the win but setting up other rider.

Halfords Tour Series concept is simple - “acknowledge the team rather than the individual” with the series looking to find the best team in the country. The team tactics become much clearer when the Overall leaders jersey is presented to the whole team after each stage rather than an individual, it might be only a minor change but suddenly the whole thing makes since, with riders sacrificing there chances to get there team mate in a winning position, and then his efforts are acknowledged at the end of the stage if his team is successful.

Certainly the concept has proven to be a winner with spectators and the profile of the series in the UK experiencing amazing growth since its inception. The organisers brag of a high speed intense gladiatorial circuit racing with the teams compete to place their top three riders in the highest positions. For once the concept of elite team cycling seems the make sense and the crowds of spectators are proof that the initiative works.

There is some acknowledgement of individual performance at each round with a Sprint King and a Round Winner at each of the ten events in the series. Plus the organiser ensure that spectators at each venue get there full fix of excitement with a  cycling  festival at each venue

The 2010 Halfords Tour Series takes place from 25th May to the 24th June, with 10 ten battling it out in ten cities to be crowned the best team in the country.
